A long-established dance school in Abingdon
Abingdon Dance Studios is a leading, long-established dance school in Abingdon, offering classes for children, teenagers, and adults across a wide range of styles, including street, freestyle, rock and roll, ballroom, Latin, and private dance lessons.
We are proud to have been part of the local community since 1965, providing high-quality dance training in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Our history
The dance school was first established in 1965, originally operating under a different name, Brett's, with previous owners. In later years, the school was taken over by Pauline Selleck and her daughter Liz Lee-Selleck, who renamed it Selleck's before it later became Abingdon Dance Studios in the 1980s.
For many years, the school was based on Swinburne Road, where Pauline ran the business initially on her own and later jointly with Liz. Liz is an IDTA examiner and life member, and together they played a key role in building the school's strong reputation and teaching standards.
Passing on the passion for dance
Both Pauline and Liz taught Michelle to dance, and Liz went on to train Michelle as a dance teacher under the IDTA. This shared history and commitment to excellence continues to shape the school today.
Liz retired from teaching five years ago, at which point Michelle took over the day-to-day running of the school. Two years ago, Liz officially sold the business to Michelle, ensuring the school's values, standards, and community focus continued into the next generation.
Leadership today
Michelle is now the Owner and Principal of Abingdon Dance Studios. Trained under the IDTA by Liz Lee-Selleck, Michelle has been part of the school for many years and is deeply committed to maintaining the high standards established over decades.
Her approach combines strong technical training with a supportive and positive learning environment, helping dancers of all ages build confidence, skill, and enjoyment through dance.

Abingdon Dance Studios now operates from Larkmead Secondary School and still based in Abingdon.
We offer classes for all ages and abilities, with opportunities for students to take part in exams, competitions, and showcases throughout the year.
All of our teachers are trained to a very high standard under the IDTA and are passionate about supporting every dancer to achieve their potential.
Our approach to teaching
At Abingdon Dance Studios, we believe dance is about far more than learning steps. Dance helps students develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and self-belief.
We encourage dancers to work independently and as part of a group, to care for their bodies, and to stand proudly in front of others. Our focus is on positive learning, enjoyment, and personal growth.
